About the artist
Grant Lounsbury is a classically trained animator with a Bachelor of Arts in Animation from Sheridan College. He spent much of his early career in traditional animation, working internationally on television and feature films including Anastasia, Titan AE, Darkwing Duck, and the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon.
He began painting over fifteen years ago and has won numerous awards for his work. He now paints professionally in oil and teaches art at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Working often outdoors, he embraces a loose style that conveys movement and energy.
Artist Statement
"My paintings are derived directly from the emotional connection that I have with the subject matter, generally my relationship with the outdoors, wildlife, and sometimes special structures. I try to capture a specific moment in time. I recognize that the next generation may not be able to interact with the great outdoors in the same way that I can, and I want my paintings to give future generations the perspective and insight that is unique to my experiences, my thoughts, and my vision. I strive to create a record of the world that I see and to interpret the connection I have with that natural world."
